Deception in the social sciences.

My friend points out that if I throw out psychology, what about the other sciences? I AM NO EXPERT ON RELIGION. I have never taken religious studies. The closest I got was an eastern religions course at the university. My degree is in social sciences with a concentration in economics and history. At CSU, economics was part of the college of social sciences (economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, history, etc.). The conflict with God’s truth lies not in the physical, natural, or engineering sciences but in the social sciences, in particular psychology, economics, and political science.

I can honestly say that when I stopped seeing people in those type categories that I truly began to see people for who they really are. I’ve prayed for a clear answer on this but all I HAVE IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE> AND MAYBE THAT’S WHAT God really wants is for each of us to individually look to Him for the answer on whether we should mix psychology with our Christian faith. The Bible isn’t a set of personal values to follow—it’s a God’s Living Word, through which He speaks to all parts of our lives—especially the ones that psychology tries to address. I wouldn’t call psychology a science but more like a pseudo-religion. Why? Because it deals in matter of the heart (emotions) and mind, personal and interpersonal problems—and after reading through the Bible anyone can see that these are God’s realm.

Economics is now a world religion. Economists are no more than false prophets all contradicting one another and practicing a sorcery of economic formulas that create more confusion and deception than clarity. The ISRAELITES DRIFTED FROM God, and they wanted a god they could see with their eyes, so they crafted a gold image of a calf to worship. Today, we seek to see a golden bull in the stock market. We have made an idol out of THE BULL MARKET and economic growth. We turn to false prophets, sorcerers, and idols instead of God, so its no wonder that were facing God’s wrath in our world “economies”.

In regards to political science, another friend pointed out that one interpretation of the book of Revelations (chapter 17-18) is a time when man again tries to raise a Tower of Babel. He said the European Union and the move to one currency is an example of this. It is man once again turning to self-sufficiency (through political and economic systems) instead of God.

There truly is something telling about the separation of the social sciences from the physical, natural, and engineering sciences. The deception is lumped under the social sciences. In the hard sciences (with the exception of the evolutionist theories) THERE IS NO ASPECT OF SORCERY OR A PSUEDO-RELIGION BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT REPLACING God’s truth with their own.

    Hi Brent,
My only worry in all your musings here (as a born again believer myself) it that you are taking the type and culture platform to push your convictions and interpretations of the Word of God as you see it onto whoever just happens to stop by. It might thoroughly confuse unbelievers who are trying to just study culture and type. It’s like the ideas of Armenianism and Calvinism…can I lose my salvation or not…is rock music of the devil or ok…if an unbeliever enters into discussions of this nature unaware they get pretty confused…
O well…just my gut feeling as I stumbled upon your blog while trying to prepare a seminar for a christian organization…
Paul talks about being all things to all people to win some…sometimes he mentioned that he was a Roman sometimes he didn’t as God led…in Athens he even used the altars around him as a spring board to share the gospel…we have to meet people where they’re at…
Anyways…just some thoughts from someone who on the one hand also sees the major dangers and the benefits of type… I think our values make all the difference. C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity talks of us all have raw materials from God to live our life for Him…one day He will hold us accountable for how we used these to glorify Him. Some of these raw materials are: personality, intelligence, talents, vocation and educational background, what I’ve been taught in my church, my upbringing, my health, etc…what I do with these is what I have to answer to God for…He will one day hold me accountable. Personality is a VERY SMALL part of the big picture. What makes a HUGE difference are our values…do I value what GOD values or what the world values?
Okay…enough of my musings…blessings to you brother!

    Hi Hannah,

Thanks for your comment. Yes, God is showing me lately that I have meet people where they are at—both non-believers and believers—especially non-believers at work and in my neighborhood. However, in my blog, more often than not, I feel led to talk to people who call themselves Christians. It’s a place where I can speak the truth without having to soften my message. In my writing I feel a burden to speak to Christians and about Christianity rather than one for winning souls of people who are into personality type.

I changed my blog to address to http://www.wateroflife.me/ but the old address ( http://www.typeandculture.com/ ) also still forwards to this blog.

I’ve actually abandoned the type and culture platform and no longer sell my book. I left the address forward on because it’s on google and it’s printed in my book. I hope that these people will have a chance to read through my blog and see what the Lord has shown me as I moved away from personality type. The first example being this blog:
    http://www.typeandculture.com/?page_id=100

I have received several emails from people who want my type and culture book. Many are not responsive to my convictions on personality type and some are offended. The Gospel and God’s truth are offensive to those who don’t believe in Jesus. Personality is a small part of the picture but the church and our culture turn it into a large part. Personality type is in every Christian marriage seminar, book, and study. Here is a blog that mixes the spiritual gifts with personality types: http://www.shareasyougo.com/evangelism-training . They have some great explanations how the spiritual gifts translate to evangelism but they list and incorporate personality types like they were part of the spiritual gifts. Psychology has infiltrated many parts of our society and the church culture as well. I’ve written more about that in these blogs:
    http://www.wateroflife.me/?p=199
    http://www.wateroflife.me/?p=233
    http://www.wateroflife.me/?p=239

There are prophets and evangelists. Prophets speak the truth directly and without fear of repercussion. Evangelists tailor their message and timing to witness to the lost. I don’t know if I am either one but this blog is the place where I can write about what I have discerned (my convictions and interpretations) while at the same time try to be all things to all people in my workplace and at church. It’s a difficult mix but that’s where I’m at today.

    Blessings,
    Brent
