Prophetic Christian dream interpretation
This is the sixteenth blog entry I’ve written about dreams. I don’t get a lot of traffic to my website but people searching for ‘christian dream interpretation’ is one of the top three searches people come to my blog for. I’ve also received several comments from people asking what their dream meant. People have to learn to interpret their own dreams because only they really understand what all the symbols mean to them. And if they pray to God for Him to show them the meaning of their dream, in my experience, He is is faithful in doing so.
For example, you would think I would know my wife well enough to interpret her dreams. My wife had a dream of her sister chasing her. I had no idea what her sister represents to her. She felt her sister represents a professional working woman to her. Recently she has been applying for part-time work and in some way her dream is telling her she is running from that.
I primarily encourage people to interpret their own dreams, although, this doesn’t mean that others can’t help us understand our dreams. Even in the Bible people saw clearly the meaning of someone else’s dream:
Gideon crept up just as a man was telling his companion about a dream. The man said, “I had this dream, and in my dream a loaf of barley bread came tumbling down into the Midianite camp. It hit a tent, turned it over, and knocked it flat!” His companion answered, “Your dream can mean only one thing—God has given Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite, victory over Midian and all its allies!”
(Judges 7:13-14)
“Barley grain had only half the value of wheat, and the bread made from it was considered inferior” (Life Application Study Bible). God put this symbol in the the dream because barley bread symbolized inferiority to the Midianite man having the dream. Gideon’s army was 300 men against 15,000 so in the eyes of a Midianite it would certainly seem inferior. The Midianites dream is evidence of how God speaks through our dreams (to both believer and non-believer) and gives us symbols that we can understand.
Lastly, I have completely dropped any form of Jungian dream interpretation. Many of my older dream blogs include Jungian concepts such as darkside, masculine/feminine, unconscious, psyche, etc. Now that I have stopped using those concepts my dreams have become even clearer to me. I also use the online dream dictionary less frequently to find out a symbol’s meaning. I don’t need it because God is more often leading me to the answer instead. We must RECOGNIZE THAT God reveals the meaning of our dreams to us and not through man’s wisdom. Using Jungian concepts is like the astrologers who invented interpretations of Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams.

Hi Carola,
Look to the Holy Spirit to lead you in the meaning of the symbols in your dream.
This website in Hungary is also handy to get an idea of what a symbol might mean: http://en.mimi.hu/dreams/index_dreams.html
I see from your IP address that you are from Amsterdam, Netherlands. There might be some cultural differences for symbols so also keep that in mind.
